Stumpy the 3 Legged Box Turtle
I was looking out the window one evening and saw a this cute little turtle sitting at the side of our pool deciding if he wanted to jump in or not. I screamed “turtle” and we all ran outside and scooped it up. It took us a few minutes to notice it was missing a front leg (we were very excited by its turtleness). We decided to give it a try in our pond to see if it liked it, and so far it has stayed. Happily I might add. There is an inadvertant island in the middle of the pond (it is a medium plastic preformed pool) where the lily pads over the year have grown a giant root mass in the middle. The turtle (lovingly named Stumpy) suns on the center island and I’ve seen it eating an earthworm and crunching on a snail. When he is on land, he makes the cutest sound walking, kind of a “chik, chik, clonk!) as it’s three good legs move it forward and the missing leg area clonks on the pavement.
